"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." ~Mahatma Gandhi

Life goals are very important. You need them to stay busy and focused. Role models in my life inspire me to make the world a better place, and if not the whole world, someone's world. My parents have inspired me to set goals and become humble and loyal to others.

Google Says Its Self-Driving Cars Drive Better Than You
Google has been testing self-driving cars for years. Six years in fact, with a fleet of 20+ self-driving cars, which have self-driven almost a million miles over that period — and are now averaging around 10,000 self-driven miles per week.

There has only been 11 minor accident according to Google’s Chris Urmson, but he blames the self (human) drivers.

Over the 6 years since we started the project, we’ve been involved in 11 minor accidents (light damage, no injuries) during those 1.7 million miles of autonomous and manual driving with our safety drivers behind the wheel, andnot once was the self-driving car the cause of the accident.

Pull Battery Power Out of Thin Air with Nikola Labs
On May 4th, they launched their first product using the technology: a case for an iPhone 6. It converts the wasted 90 percent of energy the phone produces trying to pump out a cellphone signal, and puts it back into the phone, thus powering it for up to 30 percent longer.

May 5th: Attire Class

If I were a teacher, I would create an attire class, or fashion class. My students would be able to express their character through their style of clothes. I would educate them on how different clothes complement each other and how to put a flawless outfit together. They'll know the DO's and DON'Ts of outfits. They would learn how to have the best clothes and outfits for the any event and also how to save money when purchasing attire.

I would choose to have this class during half their lunch period, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the whole school year. Although most students go against rules and skip classes that take up half their lunch period, my class would be so interesting and lively that they would want to stay their whole lunch period.

After all the hard work produced by the students, I believe a school fashion show would be best to show off their hard work and dedication to the rest of the school and town. My class could help students decide what they want their future to look like, whether it includes fashion or without fashion.....at least their outfits would be nice

Spring Break

Spring Break was fun most of the time. It went by fast. I went to Times Square in NYC on Monday and on Friday I had a relay race for track, it was okay. At the track event I witnessed a very, very embarassing moment for a highschool senior. Click Here to watch it.

I didn't go to Coachella because I'm poor, but here is their link if you are interested.

Microsoft Announces Surface 3, A Cheaper, Thinner, Slower Surface Pro 3

  • Microsoft announced the Surface 3 today, a new edition to its Surface lineup of tablet-hybrids. The Surface 3 is best described as a  thinner, smaller, lighter, and less-powerful Surface Pro 3.
  • Surface 3 costs less
  • The Surface 3 went on pre-sale this week, and it will be widely available for sale on May 5. That puts the device’s first financial impacts in Microsoft’s fiscal fourth quarter, or the second calendar quarter of 2015.

You Can Now Build Your Own Moto 360 Smartwatch On Moto Maker

Motorola’s Android Wear smartwatch, which led sales of Android Wear devices during their first year of availability, is now part of Moto Maker, the custom hardware design platform that lets shoppers build their own looks for Moto devices. Moto 360 customization options include three different finishes, nine separate band styles and a number of different pre-installed watch face options. And no, it’s not possible that the timing of this is purely coincidental with the big Watch event Apple hosted Monday.
Apple’s approach still offers more in the way of customization, but Motorola’s play is a clever, and fairly easy-to-implement way to add a range of personalization to an existing product, in a way that Android Wear competitors probably can’t match quite as easily.

Keeps Your iPhone Calls And Texts Safe From Government Spies

A new app is created and it is called Signal. This app makes it harder for the government to get a hold of your information. It gets high marks from both the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Frontier Foundation as a comprehensive solution for protecting your privacy. The second version of the app, which launched this week on the App Store, makes it possible to send encrypted group, text, picture and video messages for free from iPhone to iPhone. If Android users want to use Signal, there are two similar apps, TextSecure and RedPhone.

“The idea is to scramble the information so well that it’s not worth pursuing. We want to make it hard to get your information to the point that it’s not worth going after,” Marlinspike says. (founder)

You Can Now Build Apps For Band, Microsoft’s Fitness Wearable

Part of today’s release includes “Insights,” a tool that will allow Band users to parse their fitness and health data inside of a new web dashboard that is part of Microsoft Health, the platform that the Band is part of. Even as the Web has gone mobile, and then into apps, there is still value in large-screen experiences.

Users of this gadget can now build apps on the watch.

Microsoft greatly constrained the early shipment volume of Band, leading to shortages at the end of the year. The device is back in stock. It will be worth noticing if today’s news can lead to another sellout.

Uber’s Series E Round Surges To $2.8 Billion

Uber has expanded its latest round of financing by $1 billion. The company originally secured $1.2 billion and has increased that to a total capacity for the Series E round at $2.8 billion, according to the NYT.

Uber has confirmed the expansion with the following statement:
The participation we have seen in Uber’s Series E underscores the confidence investors have in Uber’s growth and the key priorities of UberPOOL and further international expansion.

With the new money, Uber will continue investing in expansion, likely in Asian regions, as well as the UberPool service. Uber has raised a total of nearly $5 billion since launching in 2009.

You can check out more information on the expansion here at VCExperts.

English

For English class, I have Ms. Hunter. She teaches most of 9th grade. You can find her on the Wood-Ridge school website here. She has many helpful resources. An example is the Worldy Wise websiteWhen we hand in papers, we put it through turnitin. Turnitin is the leading originality checking and plagiarism prevention service used by millions of students and faculty, and thousands of institutions worldwide. Turnitin encourages best practices for using and citing other people's written material.

In English class, I expected to learn how to improve my writing skills. In the beginning of the year I was eager to read the books and stories that were chosen for the class. One of my favorite stories was Romeo and Juliet and my favorite book was Speak.

Technology is used a lot in English class. We use the computers for STAR testing and PARCC practice. Also when we write essays, we use Google docs. One of my favorite projects that we used google docs/drive for was our PSA commercial. Here is my group's presentation. Here is our video.

Teacher Grading Policy for English I:
40% Formal Assessments
40% Performance Based Assessments
10% Homework
10% Informal Assessment

Twitter Suddenly Locks Thousands Of Accounts [Update: Now Fixed]

Twitter accounts have been locked. Some users believe its because they are following back too many accounts. They do this to increase their amount of followers. Some Twitter users belive it's because they tweet too much. Twitter says they locked some accounts because they appeared to have exhibited automated behavior that violates Twitter Rules. Twitter put a lock on people's accounts to protect Twitter from unauthorized logins.

Twitter says:

"We are aware of an issue where some users are unable to Tweet and have received a notice telling them they’ve been locked out.

Our engineers are currently investigating”

Educational Technology and Copyright Law

In the article, I learned that copyright is a United States federal law thta protects orginal "works of authorship." This includes literary, written, dramatic, artistic, musical and certain types of other work. I also learned that all content is copyright immediatley; no papers need to be filled! Any person who creates a story, draws a picture or takes a picture the work is copyrighted.

Four exclusive rights:

  1. Reproduce the copywrited work
  2. Display the copywrited work publicly
  3. Prepare derivative works based on the copywrited work
  4. Distribute copies of the copywrited work to the public by sale, rental or lending, and/or to display the image

Welcome!

Hi, my name is Lauren Asedillo. I am a freshman at WRJR/SRHS. I play volleyball in the fall and I look foward to joining track in the spring. I enjoy watching shows and movies on netflix and hanging out with friends.  I spend a lot of time on social media, such as instagram and twitter.  I have three siblings in my family. Evan is ten years old and the twins, Emma and Ryan, are six. My favorite brother is Ryan, he was diagnosed with autism when he was about two to three years old.

In school, I am taking Spanish class instead of Italian. I strongly dislike that class. In the future, I plan on applying to several colleges: NYU, RISD, New Haven, Rowan, University of Miami and more. I am still unsure on what I want to major in college.

This is me! Enjoy my blog!
